A Hack That Makes Content Creation Easier, Faster, and Better

Want a “hack” that makes it easier to create content?

Stop thinking about it. Just do it.

The best content occurs when you’re inspired, passionate, moved, and agitated.

Ideas strike when you’re listening to a podcast, reading an article, playing sports, showering, or walking the dog.

They’re begging to be crafted, created and shared.

To capitalize on these awesome ideas, here are two approaches:

1. Write them down immediately.

Don’t worry about grammar or quality. Quickly get them out of your head and onto paper, or they’ll disappear. The faster, the better.

After the initial editorial burst, you can enhance, research, and polish.

2. Create a content idea library.

In the book “Storyworthy”, Matthew Dicks says a key to storytelling success is capturing ideas on a regular basis.

Dicks recommends an approach called “Homework for Life”, which involves writing down story ideas at the end of each day.

Use a spreadsheet, notebook, Word, an app, sticky notes, or the back of an envelope.

If you do it every day, the content pipeline would be enormous.

Final thought:

As much as you need to create content, let it flow rather than force it out. Let the words rumble out.

As marketers, we focus on production rather than idea generation. It’s why many marketers lean heavily on SEO tools for inspiration.

How do you generate and capture ideas for content?
